Post One: Smashbox Master Class II Palette

I decided to name my first post as such; Post One. The only reason I decided to start with this one today is because I was running out of time getting ready for work this morning (God, I hate having to wash my hair!) and it was easy to snap a pic of.

I got on a Smashbox kick recently. I think it was due to the fact that I live near an Estee Lauder Outlet store and I check it as frequently as possible for MAC brushes. Something about the Smashbox Halo powder had recently caught my eye but GEEZ – $59 for a powder?! Well, the outlet had a Smashbox kit for $49 that I promptly snatched up that had a full-size Halo, 2 full-size glosses, a blush/highlighter palette (5 colors total) and an eyeshadow quad. Hopefully I will get to that one soon. But anyway, whilst on this Smashbox kick, I saw this palette from them offered through Sephora. This bad boy boasts 28 shadows, 4 cream liners and 9 cheek colors – blushes, highlighters and bronzers for $59 which seems like a great deal to me.

Now, part of my cosmetics OCD is that often times I won’t open my new treasures for a while. While I opened this one, I have not used it yet. I have to admit I do wish it came with a gloss or two; I am really liking Smashbox’s Lip Enhancing Glosses. They have great colors and decent staying power but I love how they highlight my lips and I also like the formula.

I’m really looking forward to seeing how these shadows wear. I am getting inconsistent results from a couple of my Smashbox shadows in terms of color payoff and lasting power. So anyone out there tried this palette? Any thoughts or comments? Once I actually USE this thing, I’ll update with some reviews. Don’t hold your breath.

  1. I haven’t owned much Smashbox- one lipgloss, one eyeshadow, and a mineral blush/bronzer duo. It came as a special package deal a few winters ago when Tori Amos released her holiday album Midwinter Graces. Tori AND makeup? How could I pass it up?!?! The kit was named after one of the songs, “Pink and Glitter”. The lipgloss was pretty, but nothing special- a shimmery pink that you could get pretty much anywhere. I have no idea what ever happened to it… I think it might be buried in my kit. The eyeshadow, while a common color, was very pretty and one of those “use it for everything” kinds of colors. The blush/bronzer duo, though… I didn’t care for it at all. I really, really wanted to- again, TORI PLUS MAKEUP! But it had very low color payoff and was too soft and powdery for my tastes. I still have it, and still try to find ways to make it work… but no dice. I just can’t ever bring myself to get rid of it (I don’t think I need to say why, lol).

So that’s all the Smashbox experience I have, but it was lackluster enough that I never went any further in my exploration of their products.
